HELLO & WELCOME!
Here, you can find one off pieces of unique ceramic art that I create out of my lovely backyard studio in sunny Pasadena, California. My intention is to delight and inspire with an ever evolving, colorful & eclectic collection.
I invite you to choose from my current collection of rare, experimental ceramics - each piece a singular expression, fired in unique ways to capture the untamed beauty of the universe. Right now I am particularly obsessed with the most amazing in-glaze reduction luster work, and have been deep in development of this technique for the past few years.
I generally release an online collection every 3 to 6 months. You can also view some of my luster work at Blue Raven Gallery in Rockland, Maine, on display in between their temporary exhibits. As other opportunities to see my work in person come up, I will share on social media and via email.
I also occasionally offer in person workshops, and have a course teaching How to Fire Pottery in a Microwave, available on demand.
If you’d like to be notified about future releases and other events please pop your email at the bottom of this page. I always offer my subscribers early access to online collections and first pick of the one-of-a-kind handcrafted treasures!
MY LATEST RELEASE…
THE ALCHEMY COLLECTION
I’m excited to announce the release of my latest body of work - The Alchemy Collection - a vibrant and eclectic curation of one off handcrafted ceramic art objects, all finished in my signature unique and colorful glaze finishes.
At the heart of this collection is literal alchemy. The luster glazes and firing process have been developed through years of experimentation in my studio. Each piece goes through multiple firings in 2 different kilns, where the metals in the glazes are melted and transmuted: silver shifting into gold, chemical combinations transforming into luminous metallic and iridescent surfaces. This process is as unpredictable as it is enchanting, ensuring that each piece is utterly unique, and impossible to repeat.
For a few years now, I’ve been obsessively working on perfecting and refining the chemistry of these in-glaze lusters at low and mid fire temperatures. I’ve also been gathering information through endless experimentation, to fine tune the complex reduction firing process it takes to achieve these results. It’s been years of playing, tweaking, testing, and very often - when constantly experimenting - the pieces don’t work out. But I’m always chasing that colorful shimmer, and the perfection of the process, and I would never think of giving up! The kiln openings are always magical. Even if only one piece survives the firing, I learn something from each load, and it’s always enough to keep me obsessing over creating more of these gorgeous finishes.
This is my first collection release of the year, after the Eaton Fire devastated our town of Altadena at the beginning of the year. The road to recovery has been long and often overwhelming. My backyard studio had to be cleared out completely, and partly stripped down to the studs to clear out toxic ash in between the walls. Our house was full of smoke and ash from the fire, combined with the 100 mile an hour winds, which led to us having to replace the majority of our belongings, and undertake an extensive remediation process. Three of our kids' schools burned down, and that disruption has also been challenging. So, it was a long, unsettling journey to safely move back into our house, deal with the insurance process, and get everything set up again.
We are incredibly lucky, as countless friends and thousands of others lost their homes entirely, and we hold deep gratitude even in the midst of so much challenge and grief for our town. Nearly 9,500 structures burned down in Altadena alone, and almost 7,000 in the Palisades fire that happened simultaneously. So, the concept of alchemy and transforming what is heavy or dark into something radiant and beautiful, has never felt more true or more meaningful to me than it does this year. This collection carries a deep meaning for me, and is an embodiment of light breaking through darkness, and a reflection of the journey I’ve been walking this year. For me, being in my studio is deeply healing. It’s a place of sanctuary, peace, and joy, and creating with clay and glaze is the work my soul craves and enjoys.
This collection is eclectic and new, as always, with each piece representing a fresh expression of my path and process. It reflects what my soul wants to create, my ongoing exploration with glaze, and my continual striving to grow, refine, and expand my inspiration and artist output. It’s an evolution that naturally brings change. You’ll find vibrant, functional vessels meant to bring joy and color into your space, shimmering lustery ritual pieces, made for moments of presence, and sculptural works that exist as singular art objects of wonder and beauty.
The majority of this collection features my new reduction lusterware pieces. While some are low-fire works on earthenware, most are mid-fire creations on stoneware and porcelain. Alongside them, you’ll also find some of my signature earthy, layered, and colorful glaze pieces. Most of the work is functional, yet each stands as a statement artwork in its own right.
Included in the collection is:
A series of one of a kind Lusterware Ritual Cups
Unique Lusterware Vases
A selection of beautiful Lusterware Bowls and Plates
Extra special Luster glazed Incense Alters
Colorful Bowls, Vases and platters in my more earthy glaze finishes
Other one off sculptures & wall hangings
I’ve been finding a powerful theme has been emerging, or perhaps cementing, in my work - an engagement with the present moment. Sometimes it’s found in a wondrous glaze finish that draws you into awe, or other times in the feel of a pot as your hand traces the energy poured into its making. I’ve also come to hold an even deeper appreciation for the small, meaningful rituals of daily life. A sip of tea from a handmade cup, or lighting incense on a special altar, can infuse ordinary moments with calm, grounding, and meaning in a world that so often feels overwhelming and heavy
Every piece carries my love for the mystery of transformation. My hope is that when you engage with one, you feel that same sense of enchantment, and the reminder that even in fire and unpredictability, something extraordinary can be born.
